Unit 1 - Humanistic Therapy

In humanistic therapy, Gestalt therapy is when the individual is viewed as a "whole". Instead of bits and pieces that are put together to make a person, Fritz Perls believed people had layers, like onions. The therapist would first observe what was first on the outside and observable, first-hand behaviors. As they went along with it, they'd explore a new layer of emotions and began exploring deeper emotions. In my own life, I'd use this as I progressively learned more about a person I just met and communicated with regularly. It would also be helpful amongst family members as I saw them throughout the year. I believe that Gestalt's therapy is very useful as an overall theraputic method. It helps the client truly express themselves since they feel like they're being listened to since the therapist is "mirroring" their words and making them feel important through this system.

Hannibal

(In the popular TV show 'Hannibal', the famous (secretly) cannibalistic psychiarist, Hannibal Lecter, often uses humanistic therapy with his clients, mainly Special Agent Will Graham, who suffers from a special type of PTSD and frequent nightmares.)
